Catalytic acylation and sulfonylation reactions of aromatic compounds by Keggin-structure heteropolyacids, H<SUB>4</SUB>[SiMo<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>40</SUB>], H<SUB>3</SUB>[PMo<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>40</SUB>] and H<SUB>4</SUB>[SiW<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>40</SUB>], have been studied. Tungsten is more effective than molybdenum for the reactions.
