The title compounds have been synthesized by the double Wittig reaction of bis[(triphenylphosphonio)methyl] sulfide dibromide with <I>o</I>-ethynylbenzaldehyde and/or <I>o</I>-ethynylcinnamaldehyde, followed by the oxidative coupling. The <SUP>1</SUP>H-NMR spectra of these compounds gave no evidence for a ring current.
