The polymerization of methyl methacrylate with <I>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</I> was carried out in water, the reaction being found to proceed through a radical mechanism. The effect of the mass of reagent on the rate of polymerization and selectivity of vinyl monomer were studied. The isolated cell wall showed remarkable activity for polymerization. The change of surface of the polymerization system was observed with a scanning electron microscope.
