A 1:1 complex of <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>-dimethylbenzylamine oxide–SbCl<SUB>5</SUB> (<B>1</B>) was prepared in carbon tetrachloride quantitatively. Complex <B>1</B> was found to be a better reagent for oxidation of benzoin, furoin, benzyl alchols and pinacols than the complexes pyridine <I>N</I>-oxide–SbCl<SUB>5</SUB> and trimethylamine oxide–SbCl<SUB>5</SUB>. The reaction path in oxidation of benzhydrol with <B>1</B> is described.
