The <SUP>1</SUP>H and <SUP>31</SUP>P NMR spectra of phenylphosphonous dichloride dissolved in a nematic phase of <I>N</I>-(<I>p</I>-ethoxybenzylidene)-<I>p</I>-butylaniline (EBBA) have been analyzed, and the structure of the proton and phosphorus skeleton has been determined.
