Solid state colour reactions of 2,4-dinitrotoluene have been used for the selective detection of organic compounds and semiquantitative determination of indole, p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde and diphenylamine in a glass capillary. Phloroglucinol and tryptophan do not interfere with the determination of indole. A glass wool plug modification makes the selective test almost specific for indole.
