The stoichiometries of alkali and alkaline earth metal complexes with macrocyclic ligands were determined in a water-containing nitrobenzene solution by means of <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR. The chemical shift of the water protons was more sensitive to the complexation than that of the methylene protons of the ligands.
