The title reaction was investigated at room temperature and under pressures ranging from 133 to 2660 Pa. 1-Butanethiol, butane, and 1-butene were the main products. In the reaction with deuterium atom, dibutyl disulfide and 1-butanethiol were not deuterated, while butane was monodeuterated. The following mechanism was proposed to account for the product composition and its pressure dependency as well as the deuterium labeling of the products.
