• The crystal structure of <I>cis</I>-dinitrotetraamminecobalt(III) nitrate, [Co(NO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>(NH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>4</SUB>]NO<SUB>3</SUB>, has been determined from three dimensional X-ray diffraction data. The dimensions of the orthorhombic unit cell are: <I>a</I>=12.19 Å, <I>b</I>=7.18 Å, <I>c</I>=10.92 Å, and <I>Z</I>=4. The space group is <I>P</I>2<SUB>1</SUB>2<SUB>1</SUB>2<SUB>1</SUB>. The structure has been refined by the three-dimensional Fourier and least-squares methods to <I>R</I>=0.095. The complex ion has a slightly distorted octahedral coordination, with six N atoms at 1.96±0.02 Å. The complexes are tightly bound together by N–H···O interactions, thus forming a three-dimensional network.
