The catalytic effect of bases on the O→N migration of the <I>s</I>-triazinyl group in <I>O</I>-(<I>s</I>-triazinyl)-2-aminophenols has been studied kinetically. In the rearrangement of <I>N</I>-(acyl)-<I>O</I>-(<I>s</I>-triazinyl)-2-aminophenols (II) in alkaline aqueous methanol, the reactive species was found to be an ion formed by the ionization of the acylamino group. In the case of <I>O</I>-(<I>s</I>-triazinyl)-2-aminophenols (I), the rearrangement was subjected to a general base catalysis, although the extent was small.
