• It is found that sodium 1-benzyl-3-carbamoyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-4-sulfinate reduces α-keto carbonyl compounds to α-hydroxy carbonyl compounds with the assistance of MgCl<SUB>2</SUB> and reacts with 9-fluorenone to give an adduct.
