下垂体副腎皮質系の膵内分泌に及ぼす影響に関する細胞学的研究

The investigations with regard to the influences of hypophysis-adrenal system upon the Langerhans' islets of rat pancreas were performed cytologically, chiefly with ultra-violet microscope.<BR>Results obtained were as follows.<BR>1) In the cortisone and ACTH administration, ultra-violet ray absorption of alpha cell cytoplasm was remarkably increased accompanied with hypertrophy of alpha cell, and ratio of beta to alpha cell counts were decreased. From these results, it is considered that these treatments occurred the state of hyperfunction of the alpha cells. At the same time, ultra-violet ray absorption of beta cell cytoplasm was slightly increased and degranulation and string-formation of beta cell were observed. These results were also presumed hyperfunction of beta cell, on the other hand, growth hormone administration did not show marked changes in the pancreatic islet.<BR>2) In the pancreas of rat which had been removed of adrenal or hypophysis seven days before, ultra-violet ray absorpsion of both alpha and beta cell cytoplasm were remarkably decreased accompanied with atrophy of both cells and considerable degranulation and string formation of beta cells were observed, and ratio of beta to alpha cell counts were decreased. These changes were considered to atrophic degeneration of both cells. In the hypophysectomized-adrenalectomized cases, such degenerated state were further prominently observed.<BR>3) In the cases of cortisone administration after adrenalectomy, there found out the restoration of the atrophic changes of pancreatic islets occurred by the adrenalectomy, on the contray, by the ACTH administration after adrenalectomy, islet cells did not react to such replacement therapy.<BR>4) In the growth hormone administration for hypophysectomized-adrenalectomized cases, the pancreatic islet was restored from atrophic degeneration which was caused by the hypophysecto-adrenalectomy, on the other hand, ACTH administration for the same conditioned rats showed no remarkable restoration from degenerative changes by such replacement therapy. Throughout about mentioned data, concluded as followings.<BR>Hypophysis-adrenal hormones might stimulate both alpha and beta cells especially alpha cell in the pancreatic islet and ACTH influenced upon the pancreatic islet by the way of adrenal cortex, but growth hormone had a direct action to the islet cells, both alpha and beta cells.
