It is now well konwn that experimental pyridoxine deficiency has inflnences upon various metabolism. My hypothesis is biult around the fact that there may be any central affection in pyridoxine deficinecy which causes extensive changes. Therefore I studied the diencephalon-pituitary system of pyridoxine deficient rats histochemically.
My observation included the eosinophilic and basophilic cell in the anterior pituitary and the neurosecretory substances of the hypothalamus and posterior pituitary concerning the development of pyridoxine deficiency.
Both the eosinophilic and basophilic cell increased in the deficient group compared with the control group in the third week, but decreased slightly in the deficient group in the sixth week and markedly so in the ninth week when the deficiency was completed.
The neurosecretory substances increased also in tne deficient group compared with the control group in the third week, but decreased slightly in the sixth week and markedly so in the ninth week. In addition, regressive changes occurred in the neurosecretory cell of the nucleus supraopticus and the nucleus paraventricularis of the deficient group.
These changes are recovered by the administration of 50γ pyridoxine a day.
Such changes as mentioned above are observed as a result of a short experiment of administering antivitamines such as Desoxypyridoxine, Toxopyrimidin and Isonicotinic acid hydrazide.
In concision, I found hypofunction of diencephalon-pituitary system in the pyridoxine deficient rats. And I presumed that this hypofunction affected on the developement of deficiency.
