The report was made by the author on the carbohydrate figures in both liver and muscle following a single injection or by the prolonged administration of ACTH, adrenocortical hormones and insulin.BRThe present study was undertaken to compare the ACTH, adrenocortical hormones and insulin on the ability of glycogen formation in liver of normal and alloxan-diabetic rabbits with special reference to the glycogenesis from glucose and amino-acids sources.BRThe following results have been obtained :BR1. Following the injection of glucose with various hormones, the carbohydrate figures in liver were estimated as reported previously, and it has been observed that a marked increased effect of glycogenesis has been shown by injection of ACTH, slightly increased effect by cortisone and decreased effect by DOCA, and insulin has shown the same effect with the glucose alone.BRThe depletion of blood sugar curve following the injection of glucose was unusually slow with the animals of ACTH or adrenocortical hormones.BR2. The daily(7days)injection of glucose with cortisone or ACTH, a large amounts of glycogen and a higher total carbohydrate in liver were produced, a marked accelerating effect of the glycogenesis was seen with glucose and insulin injection, and a inhibitory effect with DOCA treated rabbits.BR3. Following the daily injection of amino-acids with ACTH or cortisone caused a marked glycogenesis in liver, DOCA shown to be inhibitory on the glycogen formation, insulin with amino-acids injected rabbits, there was a slight accelerating effect to form glycogen in liver, and the reverse was true in the case of glucose with insulin injected rabbits.BR4. From the above results, it should be of interest to compare the mechanism of pituitary adreno-cortical hormones and insulin on the regulation of carbohydrate in vivo.BRThere, we found two characteristics, firstly, that for the glycogenesis in liver from the glucose source, both ACTH and cortisone caused almost the same effect with the amino-acids sources, while insulin injected rabbits showed definite finding of depleted glycogenesis from amino-acids sources as compared with the glucose source, secondly, that the sugar utilization of periphery is accelerated by insulin and inhibited by ACTH or cortisone.
