42 mongrel dogs were subjected to produce myocardial ischemia by gradual constrictors. The constrictors were aplied the origin of anterior descending branches.
Each left internal mammary arteries were implanted in anterior wall of the left ventricles by the Vineberg technique, and followed up after 16 days to 9 months, And the incidence of patency and the presence of collaterals were determined in vivo and postmortem studies.
1) Patency of implanted internal mammary was 28 percent in arteriograms, but in radiograph of resected hearts, the patency was 72 percent. On the other side, the patency was 100 percent in cases which were obstructed completely in anterior descending branches.
2) The presence of collateral anastomoses between the implant and coronary artery branches was recognized 17 percent in angiogram and it was recognized 22 percent in radiograph of resected hearts. Also the development of collateral anastomoses, in complete obstructed cases, was indicated high degree.
3) Casts of implanted internal mammary arteries and coronary arteries which made from injection of synthetic resign showed 300 μ-600μ thick of anastomosed branches.
4) Hystological inspections justified results from angiograms and casts.
