• Recently, the author collected 9 specimens of <I>Eothenomys</I> from Niigata Pref. Seven of them were obtained from the upper Tainai River, 310 m alt., Kurokawa-mura, and the remains from Nagaoka City. Following characters were examined carefully on these specimens: tail ratios, breadths of interparietal, ratios of interparietal breadth to breadth of braincase, angles of zygomatic arch between squamosal process and jugal, patterns of the first lower molar, and mammal formulae. As a result, it is evident that these specimens are clearly different from <I>E. kageus</I>, which laws been reported from Nagaoka City, but belong to <I>E. smithi</I>, hitherto unknown from these districts.
