A study of cefmenoxime concentration in the paranasal sinus mucosa.

Cefmenoxime (CMX) was administered by intravenous bolus injection in a single dose of 1g or 2g to 35 patients who underwent polysinectomy. Its concentration in the paranasal sinus mucosa was measured. Curves were computed from the concentrations of CMX in the serum and the sinus mucosa. The regression equations were:1g injectionserum concentration=48.6 e-1.013tsinus mucosa concentration=28.6 (e-0.872t-e-2.593t)2g injectionserum concentration =107e-0.846tsinus mucosa concentration =59.3 (e-0.664t -e-17.256t)(t: time after administration)These show adequate concentration in the paranasal sinus mucosa as well as high antibacterial activity.It is concluded that CMX is valuable in the treatment of sinusitis.
