Ryomyositis is rarely encountered these days in nontropical countries such as Japan. Recently, we experienced two cases of pyomyositis of the iliopsoas muscle, one of which was a 46-year-old man, the other a 50-year-old woman. They had both been unable to walk because of severe lumbago and pain in the left leg. Complications or accompanying symptoms confused the typical signs of the abscess of the iliopsoas muscle. Therefore, the correct diagnosis was delayed. CT scan confirmed the abscess formation of the left iliopsoas muscle in both cases.
