Fifteen patients with unstable spinal fractures and fracture dislocations were treated with posterior spinal instrumentation. The Harrington instrumentation was used 4 times.Luque rods with segmental sublaminar wiring was used 5 times. The Harrington instrumentation combined with Luque rods was used 4 times. Seven patients presenting neurological deficits improved postoperatively. Six patients had no neurological deficits during the operation. Complications directly due to surgery were recognized in 2 cases. In this small series, it is our conclusion that the spinal instrumentation was good enough to be proposed for standardized use.
