Two cases of embolization therapy for spinal cord arteriovenous malformation.

Artificial embolization therapy for spinal cord arteriovenous malformation (AVM) has progressed remarkably with the advancement of selective spinal angiography.We experienced two cases. In case 1, good result was obtained. But in case 2, neurological deterioration occurred just after embolization by use of Gelfoam. Neurological deterioration seemed to be caused by the occlusion of normal anterior spinal artery. After some recovery of neurological deterioration, we added embolization by use of Ivalon Particles for the insufficient embolization of AVM. In this additional trial, good embolization was obtained without any neurological deterioration.In embolization, we have to embolize the AVM carefully under angiographic control, confirming the neurological symptoms and subjective complaints.
