Spinal tumors in the region of the thoracic vertebrae may be detected by an abnormal shadow in the thorax on X-ray. We report 3 cases we encountered, together with a discussion of the literature.Case 1 was a 49-year-old man who was incidentally found to have an abnormal shadow of the left lung and diagnosed as a tumor of the posterior mediastinum. At surgery, a neurilemmoma, a dumbbell tumor of extradural-paravertebral type was found at Th 11/12.Case 2 was a 27-year-old man whose abnormal shadow was diagnosed as a mediastinal tumor. At surgery, a ganglioneuroma, a dumbbell tumor of the foraminal-paravertebral type was found at Th 1/2.Case 3 was a 64-year-old man whose abnomal shadow was suspected as a spinal tumor. At surgery, it was found to be a paravertebral neurilemmoma, occurring at Th 1/2.
