REFORMING OF CARBON DIOXIDE INTO FUEL-LIKE SPECIES WITH PHOTOCATALYST

In this study, for the purpose of clarification of mechanism and optimum condition of reforming CO<SUB>2</SUB> into fuel-like species which are CH<SUB>4</SUB>, C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB> and C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB> with the aid of photocatalyst, the experimental investigation has been carried out. The acrylic tube reactor composed of the ultraviolet (UV) lamp and copper ring coated with TiO<SUB>2</SUB> by the sol-gel and dip-coating technique was used. After filling the mixture of CO<SUB>2</SUB> and saturated vapor into the reactor, UV lamp was illuminated for 48 hours continuously. The effect of the power of UV lamp and the coating number on the amount of produced fuel-like species was examined. As a result, CH<SUB>4</SUB> production is influenced stronger by coating number than by the power of UV lamp. C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB> concentration is increased with increasing the power of UV lamp and coating number. The reaction scheme of CO<SUB>2</SUB> reforming into fuel-like species has been revealed.
