• In the cotton spinning process, flat carding engines are occasionally used twice to improve the quality of card yarn. The author has studied the effect of flat carding action and the function of transfer of cylinders to dofferes, in order to see the difference between this method and the ordinary method and to improve the efficiency of flat carding action.<BR>Results:<BR>(1) For the flat to be used efficiently, fibers on the cylinder should have high potential (H) to all flats.<BR>(2) Ordinary, however, the carding action of flats may be performed within flats Nos. 1 through 12 or 13.<BR>(3) It is useful to divide flats into two groups and to provide a small duffer roller and a taker-in roller between the two groups, if we desire to change the condition of fibers on the cylinder.
