We have made a Mason type machine which is one kind of Couette type viscometer and made a research of fiber entanglement such as neps, hook formations and pillings in textile industries. We put nylon fibers in the viscous fluid between the two rotating cylinders. We discuss, in this paper, the configuration of fibers in the viscous fluid.<BR> When the viscosity of fluid is higher, we observe more bent fibers than straight fibers.<BR> As a fiber is easy to bend, the fiber is buckled by the compressible force. From Burgers′ approximation, the critical stress of buckling is determined as follows, <BR>(Gη)crit=Eb(ln2r-1.75) / 2r4<BR>where G=rate of shear (sec-1)<BR>η=viscosity of fluid (poises)<BR>Eb=bending modulus of fiber (dyne⁄cm2)<BR> r=axial ratio, 1⁄d (fiber length⁄fiber diameter)
