A New Instrument for Measuring Roughness of Internal Surface of Rings

Coefficient of friction between a ring and a traveller depends largely on the roughness of the internal surface of the ring. In the present paper the authors propose a new instrument for measuring roughness of internal surfaces of rings, to which roughness recorders of conventional type are usually difficult to apply.<BR>The main Part of this instrument is shown in fig. 1. The ring to be measured is guided on the internal surface by two guiding cylinders and is driven by a synchronous motor. Movement of the feeling needle is magnified mechanically by a lever, and optically by a rotating mirror. Records of several rings are shown in figs. 4-6.
