The relation between the dynamic characteristics of the adjustment element of Bernhardt type autoleveller and the amplitude of the input signal has been studied by the frequency response method
The results are :
(1) The specular component from the total reflection was separated theoretically and some formulars were derived.
(2) The specular component was only 1⁄20 to 1⁄30 of the total reflection for a cotton sliver.
(3) Therefore, the diffused reflection which does not depend upon fiber orientation, should be eliminated for the measurement of fiber orientation.
(4) The specular component on one plane can be derived from that of another plane which is perpendicular to the former and contains the same reflection axis.
(5) The rotating polarizer and the fixed analysers make it possible to measure continuously the fiber orientation of a running sliver.
