The dynamic characteristics of the autoleveller of Bernhardt type has been investigated by the frequency response method with the following results:<BR> 1) The transfer function of the automatic adjustment is the product of the function of dead time element and second-order element.<BR> 2) Corner frequency ω<SUB>n</SUB> of the second-order element increases with an increase in either the revolutions of the P. 1. V. input shaft or in the pressure of oil supplied to the hydraulic system.<BR> 3) The damping ratio ζ of the second-order element should be kept larger than 1/√2 in the machine to avoid osillation.
