• To obtain the data on the designing of the apparatus which handles rayon staple fiber mats, the bulk compressional characteristics of the mats in the usual process were measured with the following results :<BR> 1) By defining the apparent bulk density ρ<SUB>F</SUB>, the bulk compressional characteristics is given by the following equation :<BR> ρ<SUB>F</SUB>= ρ<SUB>F0</SUB> [1 +{ (α-1) P/ (K ρ<SUP>α</SUP><SUB>Fo</SUB>)}]<SUP>1/a-1</SUP><BR> 2) The smaller the initial-apparent bulk density ρ<SUB>F0</SUB> than the true bulk density of the material ρ<SUB>F0</SUB>, the worse the uneveness of the bulk density of fiber mats.<BR> 3) The bulk compressional characteristics of fiber mats in the usual process are very uneven, but the value of their ρ<SUB>F0</SUB> is usually even.
