The pattern made by winding periodically uneven yarn on the black-board has been analyzed theoretically and experimentally, and the relationship between the pattern and the spectro-graph of the yarn has been studied, with the following results :
(1) Patterns are straight-lines a square black-board.
(2) They are parabollas a tapered black-board.
(3) Such patterns can be recognized much clearly when the circumference of the black-board is nearly equal to even times of the half wave length of periodical uneveness on the yarn.
(4) The circumference of the square black-board had better be nearly equal to (dia. of draft roller) × π × (integral number).
(5) The wave length found by the Spectro-graph is smaller than that by the tapered pannel. This phenomenon is presumably due to the difference in yarn tension between inspections.
