The drying mechanism by a jet dryer system has been studied and the effect of the porosity degree (Ph) of a wool assembly of the same weight upon drying efficiency has been investigated.<BR> Measurements made under a steady condition (temperature 80°C) under the non circulation system of hot air current showed that the rate of drying decreases in the order of Ph 97, 70, 75, 95, 80, 85, and 90% under an air current velocity of 11.0 m/sec and in the order of Ph 97, 75, 70, 80, 95, 85 and 90% under an air velocity of 5.5 m/sec.<BR> The anomaly in the order of Ph can be explained in terms of the degree of the flow of the air current through the wool assembly. In other words, the air current can flow through the assembly only in a range higher than 95% where the rate of drying is proportional to Ph.<BR> Measurements were also made under the circular system of hot air current and similar results to the above were obtained. The velocity of the air current and, especially, the temperature of drying are important factors affecting drying efficiency.<BR> The drying mechanism in the case of a wool assembly szueezed at a ratio of 75% as in the practical process was also investigated.
