The stress-temperature behaviors of 6 nylon filament yarn at constant extension have been investigated and the results obtained are summarized as follows:
(1) The tensile stress of yarn relaxes with a rise in temperature and—in the cooling process—decreases with a decline in temperature. The variations in stress in this case is approximately linear and the entropy effect on it increases with an increase in the given extension.
(2) In the case of lower extensions, the behaviors of amorphous regions dominate those of stress-relaxation. In the case of higher extensions, the behaviors of crystalline regions dominate those of stress relaxation.
(3) The length of a filament, after heat-treatment at constant extension, is longer than the length at constant extension before heat-treatments.
