As part of the studies of metallothionein in fish, the contents of metallothionein-like proteins were investigated in various fish tissues. The metal contents were high in liver, kidney, and intestine, and low in ordinary muscle. The supernatants obtained from the tissue homogenate were gelfiltrated on Sephadex G-75 column. In the liver, kidney, and intestine, copper, zinc, and cadmium were eluted in three fractins; most of the copper and cadmium appeared in the second fraction. The metal contents of protein in the second fraction were particularly high in comparison with those of other fractons. The molecular wieght of this fraction was estimated to be approximately 10, 000. In skipjack, a large proportion of copper and cadmium was distributed in the supernatant fraction containing microsomes.
