Rectal motility of 11 cases of so-called irritable colon syndrome, 5 of atonic constipation and 32 of normal subject was studied by recording intrarectal pressures, using a pressure sensitive radio capsule (National TPH-101). Namely, intrarectal pressures were recorded under the resting condition for 60 minutes, after that, under stimulation with cholinergic or anti-cholinergic for 60 minutes.
The results obtained were as follows:
1) Motility of the resting condition and the S/R ratio (S; pressure dimension after stimmulation, R; pressure dimension at rest) with cholinergic of irritable colon syndrome were significantly higher than those of atonic constipation and normal subject. However, there was no significant difference between S/R ratio with anti-cholinergic of these three groups.
2) From the viewpoint of psychosomatic medicine, there was no significant difference between rectal motility and the results of M. M. P. I.
