The present study was designed to analyze how much subject's feelings toward the other person (S→O) and his perception of the other's feelings toward him (S-<O) were influenced by a raise in the sociometric status of O in the class. Fifty-one fifth graders and 73 undergraduate students served as subjects. Four types of subjects were used in this study: The first was the subjects who chose O in the sociometric test (MF-SS), the second was the high (Hi-SS), the third was the middle (Mi-SS), and the fourth was the low sociometric status subjects (Lo-SS). Subject's S→O and S-<O were rated on a seven-point-scale. As a result, both S→O and S-<O of the MF-SS group changed significantly in an unfavorable direction, those of the Hi-SS group changed significantly in a favorable direction and those of the Mi-SS and the Lo-SS groups did not change at all. The data also showed that the change of interpersonal feelings was consistent in spite of the subject's ages.
