Investigation results on the primary drug resistance of tubercle bacilli in Korea were summarized. Among the total of newly discovered tuberculosis patients during seven years period from 1962 to 1968, 1, 391 cases without history of previous anti-tuberculous chemotherapy were selected for study, and the yearly changes in the frequency of the primary drug resistance were investigated. Further, M. I. C. of Isoniazid (INH), Streptomycin (SM) and Paraaminosalicylic acid (PAS) were examined on 131 drug sensitive strains out of 283 isolates in 1967 and 1968.<BR>Drug sensitivityt ests were carried outb y the indirectm ethode mploying1 % Ogawase gg slant. The concentrationo f drugs were as follows: 0.2, 1.0 and 5.0 m cg/m<I>l</I> for INH, 1.0, 5.0and 10.0 m cg/m<I>l</I> for PAS and 10.0, 20.0 and 200.0m cg/m<I>l</I> for SM, r espectively. The primary resistancet o INH was highest in frequencya nd it has also a trend of increasing. Contrary to this, the primary resistance to PAS and SM has remaineda bout the same level. Whent he frequencyo f the primary resistancet o individual drugs or combinationosf two or three drugs is comparedi, t was found that INH resistance was still the highest, showingi ncreasingtr end. The proportionte sts revealedth at the strains with completere sistancet o INHh ave been increasingy ear after year, and it is also observed that casesw ith resistancet o high concentration(5 mcg/m<I>l</I>) of INH has also been increasing.<BR>When M. I. C. of the strains, which were sensitivet o 0.2m cg/m<I>l</I> of INH, 1 mcg/m<I>l</I> of PAS or 10m cg/m<I>l</I> of SM, were comparedw ith that of the standard strain, H<SUB>37</SUB>Rvh, alf of them showedr esistancet o INH and SM separatelyi n lowerc oncentrations.<BR>Accordingto the differenti noculumo f the tests, th e frequencyo f resistancein the diluted inoculumw as lowert han that of normal inoculum.
