Uremia is known to be associated with immunodeficiency. In order to evaluate the vulner ability of uremic patients to Kidney and urinary tract tuberculosis, an epidemiological study was done. The study subjects were 7274 dialysis patients including 150 tuberculosis patients treated in 161 institutions. Among them 11 males and 16 females were suffered from Kidney and urinary tract tuberculosis.<BR><BR>The incidence, mortality and fatality of tuberculosis of all forms with involvement in Kidney and urinary tract were 208 per 105 person. years, 38 per 105 person years and 18%, respectively, in male, and 561, 175 per 105 persons ·years and 31%, respectively, in female. The prevalence was 267 per 105 in male and 662 per 105 in female in 1977.<BR>The incidence, mortality and prevalence of tuberculosis with sole involvement in Kidney and urinary tract were 95, 0 per 105 person years and 201 per 105in male and 210, 0 and 221, respectively, in female. The incidence of this type of tuberculosis in dialysis patients was 38 times higher in male and 95 times higher in female than those in the general population.<BR>Kidney and urinary tract tuberculosis including cases with involvement in other organs occupied 13% in male and 30% in female of all tuberculosis developed and deaths from it occupied 13% in male and 50% in female of all tuberculosis death among dialysis patients.<BR>Tuberculosis with sole involvement in Kidney and urinary tract occupied 6% in male and 11% in female of all tuberculosis developed among dialysis patients in contrast to 1.6% in male and 2.8% in female among the general population.<BR>Thus, a very high vulnerability of kiney and urinary tract tuberculosis in dialysis patients was proved epidemiologically for the first time. Furthermore, the present study demonstrated a high frequency of Kidney and urinary tract tuberculosis among tuberculosis of all forms in dialysis patients in comparison with that of the general population.
