In this paper, an approximate analysis of the three-phase short-circuit current of the self-excited compound ACG for marine use is described. Is, AC component of the short-circuit current of the self-excited ACG, is given by Is = Vo {1+W/xd+(1/x′d-1+W/xd) ε-t/Tdéq+(1/x″d-1/x′d)ε-t/T″d} +ILOsinψε-t/Tdéq V0: rated phase voltage xd, x′d, x″d and T″d : impedances and time constant of a synchronous machine ILO: load current before short-circuit ψ : power factor angle of load current Tdéq : short circuit time constant at self-excitation W : current feedback coefficient The constants to find the coefficients Tdéq and W need only the turn ratio of current transformer α, the secondary saturated voltage of current transformer V20, the series reactance XSR and parallel resistance on field winding RP. For 100kVA, 225V self-excited compound machine, the analytical results agree with the experimental results fairly well over the range of transient period from instant of shortcircuit to steady states. With the analytical technique proposed here, adequate components of the sudden shortcircuit current of a self-excited ACG are easily determined from the experimental oscillograms.
