Culture of the rat gastric corpus mucosa and antrum mucosa was carried out using an organ culture method. As a result, it was observed that the viability was maintained up to at least six hours by histological and functional examinations. Under this condition, the incorporation of 14C-leucine into protein, extracted from the mucosa tissues and the medium, was found. This protein can be divided into two fractions by Sephadex G-100 gel filtration, and one of these coincided with that of pepsinogen activity. Therefore, it was considered that the pepsinogen fraction was newly synthesized in the mucosa and secreted into the culture medium, not only in the corpus but in the antrum mucosa.
