Furunculosis of the external auditory canals which is due not only to the infection of the sebaceous glands but often to cerminous glands, has been sofar considered a a unitary inflammation, also with respect to the treatment, without distinction in the originating glands. The sebaceous gland, being attached to hair follicles, is superfi cially seated, while the cerminous gland is deeply situated and long coiled up. Whe the former is infected, it forms a small circumscribed, conically shaped swelling on th skin of the external auditory canals. But the boils of the latter develop a slight swell ing on the skin of the external auditory canals while those on the periauricular are are severe and protracted. On the histological examination of the removed specimen from the tissue of the external auditory canals, it is observed by the authors that i the latter cases the gland cavity is ruptured in upper portion and the inflamator process is extended especially into the interstitial tissue of the glands.<BR>The authors attempted in the present paper to classify his 46 cases of furunclosi according to their origin, into 30 cases of sebaceous gland furuncles and 16 cases o cerminous gland furuncles, and described on the difference in the course and in the car necessary for the treatment.
