LOW TEMPERATURE AND RHINITIS (SECOND REPORT)

Relationship between the low temperature and rhinitis experimentally caused by Staphylococcus aureus (Terashima) was studied. Experimental rhinitis was induced by indroducing some amount f Staphylococcus aureus (Terashima) into the nose of healthy rabbits, and effect of low temperature on the susceptibility was examined and comparison was made between the following three groups and the control. Group 1- Stayed in the coldroom after the cocci introduction. Group 2- Stayed 24 hours before the cocci indroduction. Group 3- Were kept before as well as after the cocci introduction out-doors exposed to the winter weather in the coldest season in Sapporo. Control - With cocci introduced, kept at room temperature. Animals of the experimental groups showed more or less pronounced inflammatory changes, more marked in Group 2 than Group 1. In Group 3 the main foci lay in the accesory sinus rather than in the nasal cavity.
