A method of chemical analysis was established and applied to determine the purity of silver iodide smoke which is obtained by burning AgI-KI-acetone solution.Silver iodide, free iodine, free silver and other decomposition products(oxides of iodine)can be determined separately.Comparison was of three different methods for collecting samples, (a)by Cottrel precipitator, (b)impinging bottle and (c)thermal precipitation.It was found that the best results are obtained when the sample collected by the Cottrel precipitator is used to determine AgI, Ag and carbon and the sample caught by thermal precipitation is used for the determination of KI, I and iodine oxides.Samples from 10 to 50 mg are suitable for analysis although 1 mg is enough for a satisfactory result.
