A new type universal source unit for spectrochemical analysis, as in Multi-Source Unit and B. N. F. General Purpose source Unit, which generates various discharges of good electrical reproducibility and controls these discharges readily, was constructed. The trigger circuit is made of a new type electronic device, the time of discharge and its phase are controlled well and freely adjustable. Also, triggering voltage is stepped up by means of a specially constructed small transformer and it is regulated by adjusting the auxiliary spark gap. A good result was obtained for testing of discharge by this apparatus in the test with oscillograph and found that the apparatus showed the sensitivity for determination of 0. 004 % silicon in iron and steel. Also, the determination of silicon up to 1 % was possible and the working curve was linear without showing self-absorption.
