Quantitative determinations by flame photometry are applied mostly to the elements belonging to Group 1 and 2, however it is very seldom to be applied to the other elements. Also, the determination of these elements must always be made with the consideration of interference caused by co-existing elements. During the course of studies on flame photometry, the authors found that aluminum has a marked interference on the intensity of calcium flame consequently, an indirect determination of aluminum based on an application of this fact was possible. As an experimental example, determination of aluminum contained in zinc alloys for die-casting in the presence of zinc and found that this method gave almost the same precision as that obtained by chemical analysis.
