The globule arc excitation method of spectrochemical analysis is studied for the determination of elements in boiler or condenser tube scale.<BR>The globules made of sample scale admixed with cupric oxide in ratio 1: 1, are excited by d.c. 280V 0.8 A.<BR>The results are summarized as follows:<BR>1.By the proposed method, major elements (Fe, Mg) and minor elements (Ni, Co, Cr, Zn and Mn) in the scale can be determined in one excitation with acceptable precision.<BR>2. The volatilization curve of each element in the sample globule is nearly constant during 30 to 105 sec.of arcing.<BR>3. Since the globule arc excitation suppresses the volatilization of silica, alumina and quick lime, these elements can not be analyzed.<BR>4. In this method, arc temperature estimated from the intensity ratio of two spectral lines is calculated to be 3500°K which is lower than that of the normal arc of sample alone.
