For the purpose of developing a semi-quantitative universal method of spectrochemical analysis, a study was made on the volatilization rate of elements in powdered samples.<BR>In this study a mixture of sodium carbonate with graphite powder was used as the common matrix. The results indicate that the selective volatilization in samples is suppressed and the variation in total intensities of several lines studied does not exceed the range with a factor 3-4.By means of the thin-wall electrode, it was found that the volatilization rates of fourteen elements form two groups.<BR>Working curves for ten elements were made using Ga and Be as internal standard.
