The gut often gets cut when a fish is hooked during trolling operation. Accordingly, for trolling gear design it is necessary to investigate the strength of the looped part of the gut against impact load. The present study was carried out using an experimen-tal apparatus and dealt with the relation between impact load and tension of trolling line. Relationship between impact load (Wv) and tension (T) can be roughly expressed as T= 1.97Wv+4.5. The impulsive strength of the samples was about 25% loss as compared with the tensile strength of the same samples.
