Japanese Evaluated Nuclear Data Library Version 2 (JENDL-2) has widely been used, and its reliability has been proved(1)(2) for fission reactor and shielding calculations. On the other hand, it has been pointed out for fusion neutronics calculations that the data of JENDL-2 are not sufficient for neutrons whose energies are higher than 5 MeV. <BR>There were urgent requests to use the JENDL data for fusion neutronics calculation, for example for analyses of a Japan-USA joint mock-up experiment of fusion blanket using the JAERI-FNS facility. Responding to these requests, re-evaluation was made for the most important nuclides : 6Li, 7Li, 9Be, 12C, 16O, Cr, Fe and Ni. This revised data set is called JENDL-3PR1 (JENDL-3 Preliminary Version 1) and was released with restriction in early 1984. In this note, the re-evaluation for Cr, Fe and Ni is reported. <BR>Nuclear model calculation adopted in the JENDL-2 evaluation for the structural materials was based on the spherical optical and statistical models without considering the direct and pre-equilibrium processes which are important for high energy neutrons. Consequently in JENDL-2, the inelastic scattering cross sections to the low-lying levels are much underestimated and the secondary neutron spectra are too soft. <BR>Hence in the present evaluation, the direct and pre-equilibrium processes were taken into account for the inelastic scattering and (n, 2n) reaction cross sections as well as their angular and energy distributions of secondary neutrons. We did not modify the compound process component of JENDL-2, but added the direct and pre-equilibrium components as corrections by adjusting the elastic scattering cross section so as to keep the total cross section. The direct and pre-equilibrium components were calculated only for the main isotopes, i.e. 52Cr, 56Fe and 58Ni, and the same values were assumed for the other minor isotopes when considering the natural elements.
