外鼻DesmoidTumorの1症例

Desmoid tumor is a benign fibrous neoplasma which arises from musculoaponeurotic structures throughout the body and is classified between benign and malignant tumors. This tumor was first described by Macfarlane in 1832 as a abdominal wall tumor and usually it was seen in the abdominal wall of multiparous woman. But since then, desmoid tumors which arose from elsewhere other than the abdominal wall have been reported, so that they were classified into two types; abdominal desmoid and extra-abdominal desmoid tumors. Both types have been reported in many cases until now. Among extra-abdominal desmoid tumors, the cases seen in the face and head were so rare that we could find only about 20 cases in the world literature. Recently we experienced a case of desmoid tumor in the facial region. The patient was a 28-year-old male whose chief complaint was the swelling of the lateral surface of the external nose on both sides. It was surgically removed and pathologically proved as desmoid tumor. Desmoid tumor of the external nose has been reported only in one case by Masson so far, and because of its rarity, we reported one case with a review of the literature.
