Nineteen handicapped pupils, 15 of sensory-neural and 4 of mixed type hearing loss of 45_??_60db, were educated with the use of hearing aids, speechreading and visual educations for the past two years. The results of the investigations are as follows: 1) Effects of hearing aids and speechreading. The use of hearing aids brought much better im provement of hearing discrimination in 12 pupils, fairly good in 5 and poor in 2. Combination of speechreading with hearing aids helped more to improve hearing discrimination. 2) Educational achievement. Nine pupils who had two years education all showed considerable educational progress. 3) Results of speech correction. Seven of 19 pupils showed articulation disorders. Speech correction on them proved to be effective with the use of hearing aids. 4) Intelligence test. Mental ability of pupils were assessed by means of WISC test (modified for Japanese use). Pupils whose I.Q. were below 90, were reluctant to all the special educational procedures mentioned above. Author concluded that the children who have both an average hearing loss 45--60db and the normal intelligence, should be eligible for the class for the hard of hearing.
