Magnified odservation of the colon through dissecting microscope, in contrast to histlogy, reveald that there are abnormal pit patterns which show no evident changes histololgically, and which we defined as "abnormal mucosal patterns".<BR>Abnormal mucosal patterns tend to reveal extremely similar findings to those of hyperplastic nodules and metaplastic polyps.<BR>To obtain a better understanding of abnormal mucosal patterns, they were compared with hyperplastic nodules and metaplastic polyps, both through dissecting microscope and histologically, leading to the conclusion that it is difficult to differentiate abnormal mucsal patterns from hyperplastic nodules and metaplastic polysp. They belong to the same category based on dessecting microscopy.<BR>Only adenomas could be differentiated from the others based on abnormal pit patterns.
